Smart Card Authentication

Smart card authentication is a secure process of verifying a person with the help of smart cards. Smart card authentication provided by smart cards is tamper-resistant authentication. When a user inserts a smart card into a smart card reader, the device reads the information stored in embedded chip on a smart card. As the provided information matches, smart card reader successfully authenticates the user.

Smart card authentication is now widely used in credit cards and debit cards during transaction of funds. Smart card authentication is also used for Single Sign-On (SSO) in various industries. Most organizations have now started relying on smart card authentication as it provides much stronger authentication than other means of identity verifications.
